UGG is derived from the name “ugly boots,” and is well known in Australia and New Zealand as a unisex style of sheepskin footwear rather than a particular brand. In the 1920’s Australian shearers first used sheepskin off-cuts to keep their feet warm in the cold outback winters, however after adaption and customisation they have developed into comfortable and warm “ugly” boots. UGG (UGH) is used as a generic term to describe Sheepskin Footwear as defined in both the Macquarie Dictionary and Wikipedia.
